It was a bitter cold October morning and the roofs round about were all white with frost. (Apparently the swans have returned very soon from Siberia, heralding an early and harsh winter for us.) We’re ready this time though, having learned a few lessons from last time. Use the garden hoe, not the spade, to remove blocked ice on paths. It requires less energy and is extremely effective!
Back to this morning: It was 6-30am and cold in the bedroom as I dressed. Then I saw on TV something which turned my thoughts to lovelier things. Two ladies had 260,000 imported Spring bulbs, which they will plant now, before the ground gets too hard. They will give a delightful display in the woods, turf and wild-flower meadows when winter is over.
When life plunges us into a cold dark place which seems never ending, perhaps all we have to do is wait and we’ll finally see why it had to be so.
“Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”
