The guitar derby between Manchester City and Ashton United proved a bit of a mismatch when the premiership outfit beat the Robins 4-1.
But no one minded what the score was when it was revealed £350 has been raised for Christie Hospital in Manchester.
The idea of the charity fund raiser came from John Caton-Greasley, the owner of Music Corner in Ashton’s indoor market.
Two guitar’s signed one blue and signed by Manchester City players, one red signed by Ashton United’s squad plus boxing champ Ricky Hatton, were put on display in the shop.
From Feb 3 raffle tickets were sold for £1 for five, with every £50 collected by each instrument representing one goal.
The final whistle blew on Saturday when former Manchester City under-21 star and now Ashton coach Mark Bradshaw drew the winning tickets for the two guitars.
The exact amounts raised were £68 by Ashton United and £200 by Manchester City. It was added to previously collected funds to give the final total.
John said “I am delighted with the amount of money raised. We even had a City fan come and offer £300 for the blue guitar but we had to turn him down, even though the guitars are only worth £75 without the signatures.
