December the 14th and the beginning of the Kingdom as God calls Samuel to serve Him. By calling this child God set into motion his great plan for mankind to reverse the sin of Eden. 1 Samuel 3:8-10 God called again, "Samuel!"—the third time! Yet again Samuel got up and went to Eli, "Yes? I heard you call me. Here I am." That's when it dawned on Eli that God was calling the boy. So Eli directed Samuel, "Go back and lie down. If the voice calls again, say, 'Speak, God. I'm your servant, ready to listen.'" Samuel returned to his bed. Then God came and stood before him exactly as before, calling out, "Samuel! Samuel!" Samuel answered, "Speak. I'm your servant, ready to listen." Samuel, son of Eli, was repeatedly called by God. When at last he recognized the Lord’s call, he adhered to it without fail, and eventually in 2 Samuel proclaimed the coming of Christ the King , who would have dominion over all earthly kings, would be in the line of King David. When Samuel heard God’s call he was only a boy who had been given to the temple in thanks of God’s blessing on his mother’s life. His mother stayed at the temple till he was old enough to stay without her and he served God under Eli the priest. Hannah shows us that all we have is on loan from God, Hannah prayed and God heard her and gave a son. In the same way, years later God called to Samuel and he heard and replied. Listening and responding is vital in a relationship with God. One would expect God to call Eli, older and wiser maybe, but God does not look at the outside he looks at the heart. A lesson Samuel would learn later in life when he did as God asked and choose David to be king.
