Music played an important part in Israel’s worship and celebration. Singing is an expression of love and thanks and was a creative way to pass down stories to the next generation. Some say this song of Moses is one of the oldest recorded songs in the world. If is an epic poem of God’s victory lifting hearts in praise and worship. Exodus 15 selection. Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to God, giving voice together,
“I'm singing my heart out to God—what a victory! He pitched horse and rider into the sea. God is my strength, God is my song, and, yes! God is my salvation. This is the kind of God I have and I'm telling the world! This is the God of my father— I'm spreading the news far and wide! God is a fighter, pure God, through and through. ..... The place where you live, the place you made, Your sanctuary, Master, that you established with your own hands. Let God rule forever, for eternity!” .... Miriam the prophetess, Aaron's sister, took a tambourine, and all the women followed her with tambourines, dancing. Miriam led them in singing, “Sing to God— what a victory! He pitched horse and rider into the sea! “ Mary sang a praise to God after the conception of the Christ. Mary’s song glorified God for what he was going to do for the world through this child. She was not being proud and promoting the I am the mother of this child, rather she was recognising and accepting the gift God had given her. If Mary had denied her incredible position she would have been giving the gift back to God. Pride is refusing to accept God’s gift; humility is accepting the gift then using it to give praise and service back to Him.
