Today’s story is from Genesis chapter 37 to 51. It’s a huge reading and too much to paste here. http://bibleresources.bible.com/passagesearchresults.php?passage1=genesis+37&version1=65you can find it on this link and just keep changing the chapter number. But the parallels are well worth mentioning Today’s symbol is a sack of grain with a silver cup half visible at the top. The silver cup was a symbol of Joseph’s authority in Egypt. It was said to have supernatural powers and to steel it was a huge crime. This put tremendous pressure on Benjamin in chapter 44, Benjamin was loved dearly by Jacob (his father). Judah, Benjamin’s’ brother and Jacobs fourth son of twelve, from who’s line eventually would come King David and in time the Christ. Judah’s offer to take the punishment for Benjamin is a picture of what his descendant would one day do for all man, for in the end the Christ came to die. In addition the life of Joseph reflects the life of the Christ. Both were loved dearly by their father, a shepherd to their sheep, sent by the father, hated by his brothers, others plotted to harm him, tempted, taken to Egypt, Robes taken from him, sold for the price of a slave, bound in chains, falsely accused, placed with two prisoners one saved and one not, both 30 years old at the beginning of public recognition, exalted after suffering, forgave those who wronged them, saved their nation and what man did to hurt them God turned to good, Ironically the earthly father of Jesus was called Joseph, Jesus accuser was also called Joseph and so was the man who provided a tomb for Jesus’ body. So many things to think about :) hope ou enjoy the story, well worth a good read.
