RSCM Sacred Music Studies, Easter Study Week - Bangor University
|

by L. W. Bunce

There were twelve students on the residential week which was part of the distance learning course run by The Royal School of Church Music.

The administrator is Anna Burson who worked extremely hard and successfully to keep everything running smoothly.

The Revd Douglas Galbraith introduced us to some very enjoyable music and gave us lots to think about with his talks.

Professor John Harper led the week and supplied us with lots of practical music and ideas to take home and use.

Dr Sally Harper gave us some wonderful evenings of Celtic music.

Alistair Warwick was not able to be with us due to an injury and was missed. We are all concerned for his recovery.

The week was a real time of community, even though most of us were new to each other. Having dinner together at a local restaurant was very good and we enjoyed the friendships made. The local ‘Greek Taverna’ was a meeting place for most of us for lunch. The coffee was excellent!

We had lots of fun in amongst all the work and found the course motivating.

I had an extra bonus as one of the fellow students, a lady named Barbara, gave me a singing lesson, teaching me how to breathe etc. and lots of advice. How I wish she lived nearer to me as I would be a regular pupil!

I started the 2 year course at the end of January 2008 and am well on the way and thoroughly enjoying it. The week away helped enormously and sorted out my questions, supplying me with plenty of encouragement and inspiration.

Thank you to everyone on the course and I look forward to returning at the end of July for the second week.

I'm the one on the left of the door, black suit, notice (you'll have to listen carefully) that I can now sing
C above middle C,
Thank you to my friend Barbara who gave me the singing lesson.
