The search is on for the next George Formby - but you still have o be at school to join in. The Music Corner is Stalybridge is offering youngsters a Ukulele Class on a Monday night. Chris Caton-Greasley, manage at the shop on Melbourne Street said "Ukulele's are fast becoming the instrument of choice in many schools. When I first aired the idea of Ukulele instead of a guitar I had a few raised eyebrows and George Formby jokes." "It's a perfect size for he little ones to play and we will be teaching nine simple chords with our unique Ukulele Gymkhana programme." The Ukulele Gymkhana will encourage youngsters to learn this ever popular instrument by awarding a rosette for every chord they master. "I wanted something for them to aim towards that was in the spirit of he ukulele. Everyone loves receiving a rosette ribbon so I started there" Added Chris "So the Ukulele Gymkhana was born" "We have a different colour rosette for a song with one, two, three chords etc... and we achieve a ribbon if we can sing and play the song with skill and enjoyment." The lessons are on Monday after school. Starters for up to 4 chords 3.45 - 4.15pm and then you graduate to the next class. For more information please call 0161 303 9966
