I was looking in the bible for interesting things on music but came across a man called Jabez. And so I’m starting with the power of prayer, because this seems to me to be so relevant and a good lesson on how we should pray. Jabez came from the tribes of Israel and was one of Judah’s descendents. Jabez is remembered as ‘the one who prayed’ In his prayer he asked God for four things. To bless him To help him in his work Be with him in all he did. Keep him from evil and disaster. I can use this prayer, you can use this prayer, my Church at St. Marks Dukinfield can use this prayer. Lord bless me Lord help me in my work Please be with me in all that I do, Please keep me from evil and disaster. And this was his prayer from 1.Chronicles chapter 3 verse 5 ‘Oh, that you would wonderfully bless me and help me in my work.’ Please be with me in all that I do. And keep me from all evil and disaster.’ And this is the best bit, straight from the bible; do you know what God did? ‘And God granted him his request.’ Jabez prayed specifically to be protected from evil and disaster. ‘And God granted him his request.’ Wow! This is amazing stuff. We live in a fallen world where sin abounds. It is important to ask God to keep us safe from the unavoidable evil that comes our way personally and also for our Church here at St. Marks. I believe we must not only seek God’s protection from evil, but ask God to keep evil from becoming part of our thoughts and actions. The Bible that I used was, The New Living Translation Life Application Study Bible.
