What’s a great idea? Well, we think this is a great idea – the brilliant new Seiko ST01 key ring tuner, a superbly compact, fully chromatic automatic stick-style tuner with a high quality metal fascia and clear, easily legible LED note readout.
Looking remarkably similar to the USB memory stick from whence it undoubtedly derives its name, the 6cm-long Seiko looks like a very stylish unit indeed in its shiny metal casing.
The ST01 features a built-in mic as its note source, so your surroundings have to be reasonably quiet. The read-out gives a single digit LCD display of your desired note while direction arrows flash accordingly to guide you in, flashing quickly if you are way out, slowing to solid as you get close, with a green LED light when you’re bang on. Takes longer to describe than it it does to actually tune!
A wide tuning range covers A0 to C8, so it works with guitars and basses too, increasing its versatility. Auto power-off cuts in after a couple of minutes to keep the small disc-type battery up to strength for as long as possible.
It is very competitively priced at only £11.99 RRP, and is, quite frankly for musicians either for themselves, or as a gift. Or, dammit, both. Splash out – get two, you know you’ll want to keep it once you’ve made that purchase, because it’s just so groovy!
