Mr Lucius Malfoy a pureblood wizard, Death Eater extraordinaire and the hottest bad guy worth ogling over. He is 41 years of age and lives in the Malfoy Manor in Wiltshire. In the mansion he keeps a collection of Dark Arts goodies under his drawing room. A good deal was sold in Knockturn Alley when the Ministry of Magic were doing house searches for Dark Arts material. Lucius attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was sorted, with no surprise, into Slytherin. During this time he was friends with one Tom Riddle (aka Lord Voldemort or you-know-who). After leaving Hogwarts he became a Death Eater – a follower of Lord Voldemort. This was probably as much of a benefit to Lord Voldemorts cash flow as Lucius’ status. Lucius is married to Narcissa Malfoy (nee Black), who is the cousin of Bellatrix Black. With their only pure blood son, Draco they make the wizarding worlds aristocracy, and act like it. Lucius has always been an influential member of the wizarding world, gaining status through threats, bribery and terrorism of the world. He does not like Mudbloods (aka Muggles) and thinks Hogwarts should be rid of them all. After the attacks in the Chamber of Secrets he was found to have been guilty of threatening to curse the families of anyone who did not agree with his proposal to have Professor Dumbledore suspended as Headmaster. Hence he was sacked from office as a governor of the school. He stands accused, by Harry Potter, of slipping ‘The Diary’ into Ginny Weasley’s cauldron whilst in Diagon Alley. Dumbledore suspects he has, and has warned him using any, more of Tom Riddles school things. The diaries lead to the opening of the Chamber of Secrets and, well read the book. Other than Jason Isaacs the book is better than the film. Lucius has the service of a house elf (maybe more) who he regularly abused. In the Chamber of Secrets Lucius’ house elf, Dobby, tried continuously to protect Harry Potter, at pains of his life. Following the incidents in the Chamber of Secrets; Dobby was freed because ‘Harry Potter’ hid a sock in ‘The Diary’; thus ensuring that Lucius handed Dobby clothes. Lucius enjoys tormenting muggles at the quidditch world cup but ran from the dark mark in the sky. While Lord Voldemort was not around for 13 years Lucius returned to the good side. When Lord Voldemort returned in the middle of a spooky graveyard, Lucius responded to grovel to Lord Voldemort for his old position back. In the Department of Mysteries Lucius had to complete a job for Lord Voldemort. This all centred around ‘The Prophecy’ which is a small glass sphere with a memory inside, only Harry or Lord Voldemort can retrieve. Within this area there are a set of school children duelling with a group of twelve Death Eaters all fully-grown adults who use the Unforgivable Curses on a regular basis and guess who wins? The kids of course, very Enid Blyton! Anyway, Dumbledore and the old guard against Lord Voldemort arrive just in time; the Death Eaters are all captured and locked up in Azkaban. Azkaban is a place where there is no washrooms, no combs for (stunning, long, thick, blond) hair, no shampoo, no hair dryers etc…! and the Dementors remove all happy thoughts of wife at home, Quidditch, son etc… He really should not be there. But it will not be long and the Dementors will join Lord Voldemort and all Azkaban will be free Lucius is played by the stunning Jason Isaacs whose performance was, as expected, totally excellent. The accent is from, I believe, an ex teacher and is just perfect for the role. Lucius was cast to sport black and white badger hair and wearing pinstripe suits. I much prefer the flowing robes and velvet. Need I mention the cane, without it the image would not be complete. He starred in 'Chamber of Secrets' and has a cameo role in 'Goblet of Fire' then a totally excellent fight scene in Order of the Phoenix. Then (sob) Azkaban, where he still is all through book 6 (Please Ms Rowling, don’t leave him there; but I have a funny feeling she will.) Why do I like Lucius? The answer is simply he has many qualities I admire, in amongst the less desirable ones. Theses include an amazing dress sense, the ability to have almost complete control of emotions; irrespective of situation, an amazing accent and ability to use it with great effect, control of sibling, to concede to error and then still hold his head high, to stick by choices when he needs to, however he feels or the outcome. Ok there is the bad but.... that’s only fiction ;) Lucius is played to perfection by Jason Isaacs. Lucius in Chamber of Secrets - the primary reason for buying the DVD :)
