Take 8 old food tins of various sizes.
We used
small sweetcorn tins,
large Heinz soup tins
Homepride long and tall tins
baked beans tins (well it wouldn;t be right without baked beans ;) LOL)
The wide pineapple ring tins
Plum tomato tins
Hot chocolate tin
etc.... You will need a few extra for the tone check.
Then clean the tins well and test the tins for a good tone. When satisfied hammer the cut edge flat so fingers don't get hurt.
Make them into a daisy shape with the largest tin in the centre. when happy move them all out and using parcel tape as follows
From the centre tin place one side tin and tape together. Add another tin and tape the three, then another and tape around all 4 etc.....
One the underside tape them all together too.
When happy wrap a good deal of tape around the edge and tie a shoe lace around for a stap or, as we do, to tie it to a music stand.
we have used it as a marching 'steel drum' or a valued addition to out drum kit.
