This was taken from a newspaper article a few years ago and impressed me enough to tell all my piano students.
I devised the ‘Practice Record Cards’ to record practice times and printed the following information on the cover.
Did you know…
- A survey of students going to music college discovered that each student had amassed about 5.000 hours practice by the time they were 18 years old.
- A survey of concert players revealed that on average they had practiced for 10.000 hours by the time that they had turned professional.
Join constructive practice with dedication and a love of music and watch the results…
For example;
- 10.000 hours over 10 yrs = approx. two and three quarter hours per day.
- 5.000 hours over 10 yrs = approx one and a half hours per day.
- 2.500 hours over 10 yrs = approx 45 minutes per day
- 45 minutes per day can result in a very good player
 Fill in the ‘Practice Record Card’ every day with your practice times and watch the totals grow.
100 Hours Practice Rosettes
When you reach 100 hours, send for your 100 hour Rosette.
There is a different colour for each 100 hours practiced. Green, Yellow, Gold, Orange, Red, Maroon, Purple, Blue and Pale Blue.
1.000 Hours Practice Rosette
When all the above colours have been awarded, send for your 1.000 hour Practice Rosette.
