This is a photo of my first Mason Bogie, with everything lined up correctly; the spring unit will fit onto the upper side of the chassis unit, which is coming from Las Vegas.
The smokestack (chimney) is a paper mock-up; it has been replaced with the correct one. This was made to check the clearance with the headlight.
The next phase of this 'build' is the tender, then the cab fixings can be sorted out, as the tender protrudes into the cab. The cab looks massive, but do not be fooled, there is a tender pushing in from the back and a huge firebox which will occupy fully up to the doors so there is very little space left for the poor crew.
The tender and cab unit which are on one base, has now been built, and painted.
The chassis is next required, these are being specially made in Arizona, and the builder has had a great deal of trouble after his wife died: this meant a move of state, and everything was massively put back!
Things are slowly getting back to normal; the chassis and the 6 wheel tender truck are very complcated. In addiution there have been some specially cast wheels from China with him now (he will also be making the chassis for my other Mason Bogie - that will be the larger eight wheeled version), and there has been some laser cut valve gear parts made in Australia for it as well.
These are also now 'in stock' for it.
This loco is one of a series being built around the world by 'myLargescale.com' members, under the tutelage of a master loco builder in Australia - David Fletcher. Without him it could not be possible.
This loco had some very fancy painting; again through MLS some transfers are going to be specially printed in Arizona USA, just for them in due course.
The wonders of the web at work!
