I have just finished building for my garden railway what in the UK terms is called a guards van. In the USA and specifically on the narrow gauge Denver South Park & Pacific Railroad (from now on called the DSP) it is a 'Waycar', later the DSP changed that to the universal (USA) name of 'Caboose'.
It is built in 1/20th scale (15mm to 1 foot), and is totally scratch built with the exception of the internal (coil sprung) chassis, and wheels, which are from UK sources. The body is of plywood and plasticard, with a mainly wooden underframe. I am having some transfers made for it, they will be in black, and then it will be lightly weathered. I intend to build another, slightly larger and that will be painted in (caboose) red, again with black lettering.
The photo was taken when it was almost complete, there have been minor changes since it was taken.
I have also finished a comprehensive article, with several photo's, on the building of this Waycar, and it will shortly be published on the
'www.myLargescale.com' website.
