Concert with Raffle for National Society for Epilepsy.
Christine Caton-Greasley trained the recorder and hand bell players at Grafton House Preparatory school. This complemented my piano concert. St Mark’s Sunday School hall was packed with parents, relations and friends.
The concert began with ‘Grafton House Preparatory School’ children. The reception class sparkled with their piece on handbells and included Laura Astill, Livinga Baker, Josephine Caton-Greasley, Lauren Chapell, Louie Moreton, Emmie Pickersgill, Charlotte Tierney, Zak Wright.
The recorders played next, each class playing beautifully.
Class 2. Wesley Caton-Greasley, Antonia Jameson, Scott McKinney, Abigail Williams.
Class 3. Riana Butler, Kinley Caton-Greasley, Emily Curran, Hannah Williams.
Class 4. Faye Buchan-Jones, Hannah McKinney Ella Train, Rachel Young. Own compositions were performed by Riana Butler, Hannah Williams, Kinley Caton-Greasley, Faye Buchan-Jones, Ella Train, Rachel Young.
Samuel Winstanley conducted his own composition.
Own compositions, with a simple piano ccompaniment and guitar chords will be available on the music corner web site as a ‘free download.’ ‘Composing certificates’ were awarded to the children. www.musiccorner.co.uk
The Piano playing was very entertaining as the performers are all being trained to be able to perform in public. Special mention goes to Stephen Miller who played his own improvisation on popular tunes.
The twins Yasmin & Amy Leak played a duet from West Side Story and have obvious talent in playing together.
Our other superb players were Wesley & Kinley Caton-Greasley, Laura Hurst, Lucy Salt, Megan Lomas, Jean Palmer, and Dominic Bain.
I finished off the evening with 18th Variation on a theme of Paganini by Rachmaninoff. What a wonderful night, and a special thank you to parents and friends for all the encouragement that helped the pupils to shine like stars.
First concert rosettes and certificates were awarded to the pupils, sponsored by Music Corner Limited. Money raised during the evening, amounted to £128.50. £56. to tune the pianos in the Church and Sunday School and £72.50 together with the money from the sale of second hand music at our family shop, Music Corner Limited, we will send £145 to ‘The National Epilepsy Society.’
I would like a special mention for Joanna Francis who couldn’t be with us at the piano concert. Joanna passed her Grade eight practical examination with the Associated Board and obtained distinction and will be off to music college in September.
