To form a Meldoic Minor Scales you should raise the 6th and 7th degrees of the scale by a semitone ascending.
In a descending scale the 6th and 7th notes should be returned to the original pitch. This will be set by the key signature.
(Remember the lowest note of the scale is always 1 and the highest note is 8.)
e.g A Melodic Minor
This scale has no sharps or flats in the key signature.
In the melodic form it would have an accidental of F sharp (--) and G sharp (--) ascending.
A, B, C, D, E, F--, G--, A
The semitones are between 2 and 3 & 7 and 8

Descending there are no accidentals
A, G, F, E, D, C, B, A
The semitones are between 6 and 5 & 3 and 2
